A Fake And A Liar: Big Boomarang

So there is a call to scrap Celebrity Big Brother from a sour grapes contestant, Ms O'Meara. She and Ms Lloyd and Ms Goody have been accused of bullying with hints of racial prejudice against another woman, Ms Shetty, who "won" the UK reality show a week ago.

But Ms Shetty is a famous film star, a real celebrity. British Ms Goody is infamous for shouting at her Indian rival "You are a fake and a liar!". This allegation was edited by Channel 4 to appear to be about an item of food, but it seems to Quotidian Hopes that is unlikely to be the real story. Perhaps anyone might indeed lie about ordering or not ordering stock cubes, but would one be a fake? Surely Ms Goody was vocalising her presumption that Ms Shetty was a fake, pretending to be a celebrity. Ms Goody apparently knew nothing of her rival's actual fame, but she was certain that the previous "winner" had been a non-celebrity posing as a celebrity, fooling the house. Did you know that Shilpa Shetty was a famous Indian film star at the time the show started?

Was Goody emotionally revealing her personal sense of betrayal in being coerced to compete with a fake and a liar? Was she trying to inform the audience, the voters, that she knew Ms Shetty was a fake and a liar? Did Ms Goody suspect another foul play by Big Brother? Was she really railing against her "employer" when she pronounced judgement that Shilpa Shetty was a false, fake contestant?

My opinion about this pathetic excuse for cheap television is that reality has nothing much to do with it. Why keep celebrities ignorant of what is going on in the real world outside the studio-home-prison? To prevent them performing for cameras? But they are performers - that is why they are chosen (or not in the case of the previous "contest"). It's to keep the personalities in ignorance so Big Brother can trick them. And that is what Ms Goody feared. But she was wrong - this time.

It is said that abusers were often abused by others in the first place. It does not excuse the crime but serves to explain it, so society can take action to stop it with zero tolerance.

Someone was a fake and a liar. It was not the four women at the centre of this international controversy. The producers have lost the trust of a their sponsor and nations. They are rumbled.

Why did it take so long?
