Pollywogs = Tadpoles


You probably got the teaser spaced-out word for the alternative common name for tadpoles of frogs, toads and newts. Now you know that efts are just a kind of pollywog, or, as some spell it, polliwog.

So, what does the word mean?

Pol means head and wog means wiggle, so the little creatures are literally wriggling heads.
